Bio

Sheila D. Wright, Ed.D. is the owner of Wondrous Works, LLC and a fine art valuation professional specializing in African American art. Her practice focuses on appraisal-related research, valuation analysis, market research, collection documentation, and advisory services for collectors, families, estates, and organizations.

Dr. Wright is a Member of the International Society of Appraisers (ISA) and has completed the ISA Core Course in Appraisal Studies and the 15-Hour Personal Property USPAP Course. Her professional development also includes specialized coursework through Sotheby’s Institute of Art in Art and Finance and Art and Law.

A collector for more than three decades, Dr. Wright brings both professional appraisal methodology and extensive collector experience to the examination of fine art. Her particular area of interest and developing specialization is African American art, including the artists, markets, provenance, historical significance, and collecting practices that shape this important segment of the American art market. In 2019, she wrote her first book on her personal collector journey, Wondrous Works: The Fine Art Collection of Dr. Sheila D. Wright. She is currently in the process of completing her second book, From Passion to Portfolio: Building Legacy and Wealth.

Through Wondrous Works, she provides clients with independent research and analysis to support informed decisions involving collection management, acquisitions and deaccessions, estate and legacy planning, and other valuation-related needs.
